Thane, Jun 8 (PTI) A fire broke out on the fourth floor of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters in Maharashtra on Monday morning, officials said.
No one was injured in the incident, they said.
The civic body’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) received an alert at 8.07 am about a fire in the City Development Department, located on the fourth floor of the main building, officials said.
“Preliminary information indicates that a UPS unit, some papers and a fan caught fire. The blaze was minor and confined to one section of the office,” RDMC chief Yasin Tadvi said.
A fire engine and a rescue vehicle were deployed soon after the incident.
“The blaze was extinguished by 8.35 am with the help of security guards, disaster management
staff and fire brigade jawans. There were no casualties,” the official said.
Cooling operations were carried out and the premises were inspected to rule out any further risk before normal functioning resumed, he said.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials suspect a short circuit in the UPS system, the official added. PTI COR GK
