Dharmendra may be celebrated as Bollywood’s beloved “He-Man”, but his journey hasn’t been without fiery moments. In a candid chat with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Bobby Deol opened up about an unforgettable
childhood memory where his father shocked him by thrashing a fan – only to later invite the same man home, feed him, and show him kindness.
Bobby recalls a fan incident
Sharing how his father’s aura drew both admiration and mischief, Bobby said, “He’s never made anyone feel not special. He makes everyone he meets feel very special. He gives them so much respect and so much love, and that’s a rare quality to have. There have been times where, obviously, some fans have gone and done something stupid, and he’s beaten them up.”
The actor remembered standing by in confusion. “Because when new fans come, they don’t know how to interact. They just get so excited. They might say something stupid or behave badly. And I was there watching it, wondering, ‘Why is my dad doing that?’ That man finally just fell at his feet and said, ‘I love you, sir. I’m sorry.’ My dad didn’t want to do it either, but the fan must have said something that really hurt him.”
A softer side after the clash
Despite the heated moment, Dharmendra’s instinct was compassion. Bobby recalled, “Then Dad brought him inside, made him sit down, gave him milk to drink, food to eat, and even clothes. That’s just how he is. He’s a man of action, he doesn’t need words. If anyone upset my dad, then that’s it. People keep talking about my brother’s ‘dhai kilo ka haath,’ but you haven’t seen my dad’s hand. It’s like twenty kilos.”
Growing up under Dharmendra’s watch
Bobby also spoke about his strict, sheltered upbringing, shaped by Dharmendra’s fears for his children’s safety. “My father didn’t let me leave the house at all. I returned from school and that was it. I even learned cycling inside my house. In college, when my friends started having house parties, I wasn’t allowed to go. I had a 9 pm curfew. I would go to friends’ houses, help them set up for parties, and leave.”
What’s next
Now at 89, Dharmendra continues to win over fans on social media with his charm and fitness. He will soon be seen in Sriram Raghavan’s upcoming war drama Ekkis, proving the “He-Man” of Hindi cinema is still unstoppable.
