Vijay Deverakonda’s 2025 action thriller Kingdom was conceived as the beginning of a larger cinematic universe. Tentatively titled VD12 during development, the film was designed with sequel potential in mind, laying the foundation for a franchise-driven narrative. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Kingdom featured Deverakonda in a layered, intense role, alongside Satyadev Kancharana and Bhagyashri Borse in pivotal parts.
However, those plans have now officially come to an end.
Producer Confirms Kingdom 2 Has Been Dropped
According to reports by Lets Cinema, producer Naga Vamsi has confirmed that Kingdom 2 will not move forward. The sequel, which would have seen Vijay Deverakonda reprise his role as an undercover police officer, has been shelved, putting
an end to months of speculation surrounding the project.
The decision has surprised fans, especially given that Kingdom was mounted as a high-scale action thriller with clear franchise ambitions. The first film deliberately left room for expansion, hinting at a broader arc that could unfold over multiple installments. With the sequel now scrapped, that narrative trajectory will remain unexplored.
Why the Shelving Comes as a Surprise
Kingdom was envisioned not merely as a standalone film but as a story with long-term potential. Its world-building, character arcs, and unresolved emotional threads suggested that the makers were playing the long game. The shelving of the second part indicates a significant shift in creative or commercial priorities, though no detailed reasons have been officially disclosed.
Vijay Deverakonda’s Next Projects Remain Intact
While Kingdom 2 is no longer part of his roadmap, Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming lineup remains firmly in place. The actor is now gearing up for Rowdy Janardhana, an intense action film slated for release in 2026. The project has already begun generating buzz, with fans eager to see Deverakonda return to a high-energy, mass-driven avatar.
What Kingdom Was About
At its core, Kingdom followed the journey of a deeply conflicted police officer sent undercover on a perilous mission. As the investigation progressed, the lines between duty and personal trauma began to blur. The case forced the protagonist to confront unresolved memories and emotional scars he had long buried.
What started as a professional assignment slowly transformed into a psychological battle, where survival depended as much on emotional reckoning as it did on cracking the case. The film explored themes of identity, trauma, and moral ambiguity, setting up a character arc that was clearly meant to evolve further—an evolution that will now remain incomplete.
With Kingdom 2 officially shelved, the franchise dream has ended, but Vijay Deverakonda’s forward momentum continues, with new projects poised to define his next phase.
