Harmanpreet Kaur & co. are all set to take on South Africa in a must-win game on Wednesday, when the two sides face off in the third T20I of a five-match series at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma will be keen to bring out their respective ‘A’ games as India look to pull out all the stops to return to winning ways against South Africa.
The Proteas women lead the five-match series 2-0 and would like to complete the series victory in the third game at the Bull Ring.
Smriti Mandhana, the team’s most impactful batter, managed scores of 13 and 12 in the first two games, where India posted underwhelming totals of 157 and 147, both chased down by South Africa.
As for Deepti Sharma,
her form has been more concerning. She was pushed down to No. 9 in the first game, where she remained unbeaten on 1 and then dismissed for the same score in the second after being promoted to No. 6.
In both matches, Deepti also went wicketless.
The Indian batting line-up relies on Mandhana for brisk starts and she will be eager to make amends after her low returns in the first two games. Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues showed some promise in the opening match but couldn’t deliver in the second outing.
With the T20 World Cup in England just two months away, Harmanpreet and her team will be eager to rediscover their rhythm and string together a few victories to boost the side’s morale.
