AI behind the viral song from Samay Raina’s Latent 2
Chai Ki Tapri was created using Soundverse, an AI music creation platform co-founded by Sourabh Pateriya, Riley Williams and Ash Pournouri, who worked closely with the late Avicii early in his career. According to Pateriya, the track was created by Utkarsh, a Nagpur-based user of the platform, who wanted to make a fun, Bollywood-style song inspired by a roadside tea stall.
The runaway success came as a surprise not only to listeners but also to the company whose AI technology helped create it. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Soundverse AI co-founder Sourabh Pateriya revealed, “I had no idea that Kush used Soundverse to generate it.”
He added, “I got a text from a friend of mine saying, ‘Hey, I feel this song could be AI, and it’s worth checking if it’s made in Soundverse.’ I saw the episode, heard the song—it’s a really fun track. It definitely caught me off guard.”
The Soundverse team then checked its internal records and confirmed that the song had been created on the platform in mid-May. For Pateriya, the bigger surprise wasn’t just the song’s massive reach, but the fact that most listeners never realised it had been generated using AI. Many even believed it had been sung by a human artiste named AJ.
