Days after shots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence, Shetty Tower, security measures around the director have been significantly intensified. Mumbai Police has already stepped up protection at his home, and now similar precautions are set to extend to the sets of his upcoming film Golmaal 5, which is expected to go on floors soon.
According to sources cited by mid-day, security deployment is being planned well in advance, even as the production team awaits final clarity on shoot schedules.
Shoot Timeline Hinges on Police Clearance
A member of the film’s creative team revealed that Golmaal 5 was initially scheduled to begin filming in Mumbai after February 15. However, whether the dates remain unchanged will depend on Shetty’s
decision and clearance from law enforcement authorities.
“At the moment, there has been no formal communication about a delay,” the source said, adding that preparations are continuing cautiously.
Two-Tier Security Ring and Access-Controlled Sets
If the shoot proceeds as planned, an elaborate security setup will be put in place. Around 60 security personnel are expected to be deployed on set, operating within a two-tier system — one layer comprising local police and another consisting of Shetty’s personal security team.
An insider explained that Shetty will function within a strictly access-controlled zone. “Only a limited number of people will be allowed near him. Everyone entering the set — from junior artistes to vendors and daily-wage crew — will need prior registration and valid ID verification. Spot entries will not be permitted,” the source said.
Vehicle movement will also be closely monitored, with all equipment trucks and vanity vans required to be logged and cleared in advance at designated entry points.
Shoot Details to Be Shared on a Need-to-Know Basis
In a bid to minimise risk, production details will be closely guarded. Call sheets will be circulated selectively, and shoot locations will be disclosed in a staggered manner.
“The timing and exact locations will be shared strictly on a need-to-know basis,” the insider added, underlining that safety protocols are being prioritised across all departments.
Rakesh Maria Biopic Faces Fresh Uncertainty
Meanwhile, Shetty’s other directorial — a biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria starring John Abraham — has hit a temporary pause. The film had gone on floors in April 2025 and was last shot in South Mumbai.
A source told mid-day that while only around two weeks of filming remain, the schedule is now under reconsideration. “Rohit was in Ooty for a recce until January 30, but given the recent developments, the remaining shoot will be re-evaluated,” the source said.
Film Bodies Condemn Attack, Raise Safety Concerns
The incident has sparked strong reactions from industry bodies. Both the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) and the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) issued statements condemning the firing.
In its note, AICWA referenced previous attacks involving high-profile figures such as Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan, as well as the murder of Baba Siddique, warning of a troubling pattern.
“This reflects a systematic attempt to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation within the film industry,” the association stated.
