Just two days after its long-awaited OTT debut, Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj has been removed from ZEE5 in India, proving the actor’s prediction right. The streaming platform announced that the film will remain unavailable in the country “until further notice” as it explores legal avenues to restore it. The movie continues to stream internationally on ZEE5 Global.
Diljit Dosanjh Had Already Reacted To Fears Of Satluj’s ZEE5 Removal
Interestingly, Diljit had already hinted that something like this could happen. During an Instagram Live session held after the film’s release, fans expressed fears that Satluj might soon disappear from the platform because of its long-running censorship battle. Reacting to their concerns, the actor admitted he too felt
thefilm might not remain available for long and urged viewers to watch or download it while they could.
In a video from the live session that has now gone viral, Diljit says in Punjabi, “Hun tension nahi, sab ne kar layi download,” which translates to, “Now there’s no tension, everyone has already downloaded it.” He adds that he had been worried initially, but was no longer concerned because people had already managed to access the film.
We’re not surprised even though he's already said this. https://t.co/Nii0jVIaiw pic.twitter.com/8UzNyir4PJ

What Is Satluj About? The Jaswant Singh Khalra Story
Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj was originally titled Ghallughara before being renamed Punjab ’95 and finally Satluj. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed thousands of alleged illegal cremations during Punjab’s militancy years before he was abducted and murdered in 1995.
The project spent more than three years caught in certification disputes, with the makers refusing to accept the extensive cuts reportedly sought by the CBFC. Ahead of its OTT premiere, Diljit had also clarified that he would not have promoted the film had even a single cut been made, insisting that audiences would get to watch the original version.
Why Was Satluj Removed From ZEE5?
However, Satluj’s return proved to be short-lived. The film premiered on ZEE5 on July 3 before disappearing from the platform in India on July 5. While ZEE5 has not disclosed the exact reason behind the removal, it reiterated its support for the film and said it is committed to bringing it back through due process. In an official statement, it wrote, “At Zee5, we stand firmly by Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful narratives. In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity. Our commitment to creators and to stories told with conviction, artistic integrity and purpose remains unwavering.”
