Deoria (UP), Jul 26 (PTI) A two-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into a drain while playing near a bridge in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district on Sunday, police said.
The incident occurred in Ruhiya Tola of Paharpur village under the Mahuadih police station area.
Station House Officer Amit Kumar said the child, identified as Abhijeet, slipped and fell into the Kurna drain at around 10 am while playing near a bridge.
His mother, Soni, immediately jumped into the drain in an attempt to save him but could not locate the child, the police said.
After receiving the information, a Dial 112 Police Response Vehicle (PRV) team reached the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched a search operation.
The child was found in the drain some
distance away and rushed to Maharshi Devaraha Baba Medical College in Deoria, where doctors declared him dead, the police said.
According to the police, Soni had come to her parental home in Paharpur village around one-and-a-half months ago with her only son.
She is married to Ajay Prasad, a resident of Rasauli village under the Gauri Bazar police station area.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further legal formalities are underway, the SHO said. PTI COR ABN SHS
