Varun Chakaravarthy entered his name in the record books on Friday, April 17, by becoming the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders. The spinner from Tamil Nadu dismissed Jos Buttler in the 10th over of the Gujarat Titans innings in the IPL 2026 match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, to take his tally of wickets to 100 in the IPL for the Kolkata-based franchise.
Varun is overall the third bowler to take 100 or more wickets in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders.

The record of taking most wickets for one team in the IPL is held by Narine. The former West Indies spinner has played 194 IPL matches so far for Kolkata Knight Riders since making his IPL debut in 2012 and has 196 wickets to his credit.

He conceded 48 runs in his quota of four overs against Mumbai Indians on March 29, was hammered for 31 runs in two overs by SRH batters on April 2, and finished with figures of 0 for 26 in three overs against CSK on April 14.
