CNG Price Hiked By Nearly Rs 4/kg In Delhi, Nearby Cities From 6 AM Saturday

CNG prices in Delhi and adjoining cities will rise by Rs 3.89 per kg from 6 am on August 29, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) said late Friday. Following the hike, CNG in Delhi will cost Rs 86.98 per kg, up from Rs 83.09 currently.

IGL said the increase was driven by a sharp rise in international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. The company said a significant share of the gas used for CNG comes from imported LNG, with spot market prices rising sharply since the conflict began.

LNG Costs Push Up CNG Prices

“With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of Rs 3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost,” IGL said, adding

that the new prices would take effect from 6 am on Saturday.

The latest hike follows a Rs 1 per kg increase announced on May 17. It is set to raise fuel costs for private vehicle owners, as well as auto, cab and other commercial vehicle operators across the Delhi-NCR region.

The increase comes amid a broader surge in global energy prices following the Iran war and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. Global crude prices have risen sharply since late February as tensions in the region escalated.

Retail fuel prices in India had remained largely unchanged for months as the government sought to limit the impact of higher global energy costs on consumers. The latest CNG revision, however, reflects growing pressure from higher imported gas prices.
