Rani Mukerji and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have managed to keep their marriage remarkably private, despite both being prominent names in the Hindi film industry. The couple, who had largely kept their relationship away from the public eye, got married in an intimate ceremony in Italy on April 21, 2014. Yash Raj Films confirmed the wedding at the time, describing it as a small affair attended only by close family members and friends.
One of the most talked-about details of Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s intimate wedding was the actor’s bridal look. Rani became the first official Sabyasachi bride, with designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee creating her wedding ensemble. He has now opened up about the experience of designing Rani’s lehenga for her private
wedding in Italy. He told Diet Sabya, “When she did a secret wedding with 15 people, I think only 13 people were allowed, and Adi was chasing drones.”
Sabyasachi has often made exceptions for Rani Mukerji, including continuing to create custom outfits for her when he largely no longer takes on such bespoke requests for other Indian actors. He added, “I don’t do custom for Bollywood. But I did a custom sari for her. Because I don’t think Rani is Bollywood. She’s family.”
Only a select group of close friends and family members attended Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s intimate wedding, with Karan Johar among the guests. The actress has continued to keep her wedding pictures private even 12 years after tying the knot with Aditya Chopra. The couple welcomed their daughter, Adira, in 2015. Rani had previously joked that making the photographs public on their 25th wedding anniversary would be a “very good idea”, but admitted that she doubts Aditya would ever agree to release them.
