Itanagar, Jun 21 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor K T Parnaik on Saturday termed yoga “one of India’s greatest gifts to humanity”, saying it was a simple and sustainable tool for preventive healthcare that plays a vital role in ensuring mental well-being and a balanced lifestyle.
Participating in the International Day of Yoga programme at Lok Bhavan here, the governor said the global observance reflects international recognition of India’s timeless civilisational wisdom, an official statement said.
He observed that yoga, rooted in ancient Indian traditions, has evolved into a worldwide movement for health, peace and unity among humans.
Referring to this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for healthy ageing’, Parnaik said yoga benefits people across all age groups
by helping maintain physical fitness, mental alertness and emotional well-being throughout life.
He said yoga promotes good health, positivity and inner strength, making it much more than a form of exercise.
Highlighting the growing relevance of yoga in the modern world, the governor said rising stress, anxiety, lifestyle disorders and sedentary habits have made yoga an effective and affordable approach to holistic health.
Parnaik said its importance has increased further in the post-COVID pandemic era, where mental resilience and emotional balance have become essential.
He urged people, particularly the youth and senior citizens, to make yoga a part of their daily routine for a healthier and more fulfilling life.
Health Minister Biyuram Wahge attended the programme, which also saw the participation of personnel of ITBP and Arunachal Pradesh Police, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, among others. PTI UPL UPL ACD
