Andhra Pradesh Arranges Evacuations, Shelters And Emergency Funding
Andhra Pradesh is preparing for the cyclone through evacuation planning, financial assistance and the deployment of emergency personnel. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the state’s readiness and directed officials to issue timely warnings and take measures to limit damage.
According to a report in India Today, schools in affected areas have been closed, beaches have been shut, and traffic on coastal roads is expected to be suspended from Tuesday afternoon.
One of the specific preparations involves relocating 4,711 pregnant women from vulnerable areas to health centres and hospitals. Officials have also confirmed that fishermen who had ventured out to sea have returned safely.
The state government has released Rs 27 crore to 20 districts for relief and emergency operations. Seven districts – Bapatla, Krishna, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada and Anakapalli – have been allocated Rs 2 crore each. The remaining 13 districts have received Rs 1 crore each.
Fifteen National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been positioned at vulnerable locations, including Kakinada, Konaseema, Rajahmundry, Eluru and Machilipatnam. Two teams are stationed at Yanam. Three teams each are also positioned at the NDRF battalion headquarters in Krishna district and its regional response centre in Visakhapatnam.
The emergency inventory includes water tankers, fire services and rescue equipment. Authorities have identified 1,763 cyclone shelters and opened control rooms across districts and mandals.
Reservoir levels are another concern as rainfall approaches. Six reservoirs, including Tandava, Raiwada and Yeleru, could reach full capacity following the forecast precipitation.
Odisha Limits Public Movement And Deploys 30 Disaster Response Teams
Odisha is preparing for heavy rainfall and wind gusts of up to 80 kmph, although the cyclone’s expected landfall is further south along the coast. Educational institutions in six southern districts – Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur – will remain closed on October 28 and 29. Anganwadi centres in Ganjam are also scheduled to close on October 27.
Fishing has been prohibited, and public access to beaches, hills, waterfalls, dams and other tourist destinations in vulnerable locations has been restricted. Authorities are moving people from low-lying areas and landslide-prone parts of the Eastern Ghats to safer places. Pregnant women, senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities are being prioritised.

The Odisha government has also cautioned media organisations and digital platforms against circulating false, misleading or speculative cyclone forecasts and warnings.
Anganwadi Beneficiaries To Receive Rations At Home
Cyclone-related closures are also being addressed through arrangements to maintain nutritional support for Anganwadi beneficiaries.
Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) have been asked to remain stationed in their respective areas. Dry ration and Take-Home Ration (THR) will be delivered directly to beneficiaries’ doorsteps during the closure so that access to nutritional support continues.
Rain Alert Extends From West Bengal To The Andaman Islands
The potential effects of Cyclone Arnab extend well beyond the expected landfall area, with several states facing rainfall alerts over the coming days.
