Driven By Job Search, Forced Into War: UP Man Serving In Russian Army Dies After Being Shot

A 22-year-old man from Mawasi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, who was serving in the Russian army, was killed after being shot during the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to a report by the Times of India, his family has alleged he had gone abroad to work but ended up being a part of the military under coercive circumstances.

The body of the deceased, identified as Mohd Shaved, reached Rampur on Saturday evening, his family said.

Shaved’s brother, Shahvez Ali, said the body was handed over to them after the completion of necessary formalities. He said the family remains unaware of how he got into the Russian military.

“After completion of the necessary formalities, the body was handed over to us,” Shahvez told TOI.

Meena, SP Rampur, said the police are monitoring the situation and that there is no tension in the village so far. “The burial has been completed and the situation in the village is normal. We are keeping a watch, but there is no tension at present,” he said.

Went To Russia For Employment

According to the TOI report, Shaved had gone to Russia in search of employment. He had told his family that he would be working in steel furniture. However, his relatives said things appeared normal at first, but the situation later changed and he landed into the Russian army.

The family is still unaware of how things unfolded, leading him to join the army. They alleged he may have been forced into joining the Russian military, pointing to an audio clip in which he purportedly said that his life had been “ruined”.

In the clip that surfaced on social media, Shaved had suggested he had gone abroad in search of a job and that he hadn’t expected the situation to turn out like this.

According to Shahvez, Shaved was being shot during the Russia-Ukraine conflict and died on the spot, the report said.
