Sitapur (UP), Sep 13 (PTI) An 11-year-old boy was killed while his mother and sister were seriously injured after a fire broke out at their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Sunday, police said.
The fire broke out around 6 am in a three-room house at Gopalpur village apparently due to a short circuit, Additional Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar Singh said.
The deceased boy, identified as Krishna, was asleep when the fire spread through the house. He suffered severe burns and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His mother Gauri (40) and sister Kajal (17) also suffered serious burns. They were taken to the district hospital and later referred to a higher medical centre in Lucknow as their condition remained
critical, Singh said.
Family members were asleep in separate rooms when the fire broke out, police said. Neighbours alerted the authorities after noticing flames and smoke and joined efforts to douse the fire.
Firefighters later reached the scene and brought the blaze under control with the help of local residents.
A short circuit in the metre board was the suspected cause of the fire, the Additional SP said.
The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem, police said. PTI COR NAV DV DV
