As temperatures soar across the national capital, a cooling zone set up near Jama Masjid has grabbed massive attention online after a viral video showed people relaxing inside the tent-like facility.
The viral post was shared by Instagram user gabru_meme, who uploaded a video of the facility with the caption on the clip reading, “Nah i’m done.” While many praised the initiative, others flooded social media with memes and sarcastic reactions about the city’s worsening heat conditions.
What Is A Cooling Zone?
The cooling zone has been established as part of the Rekha Gupta government’s “Heat-wave Action Plan” aimed at protecting residents from extreme temperatures in the national capital. The initiative seeks to prevent dehydration and heatstroke,
especially among people who spend long hours outdoors during the day.
The tent-like structure has been designed to provide temporary relief to the public and can accommodate nearly 70 to 80 people at a time. Commuters, tourists, rickshaw pullers, labourers, senior citizens and pedestrians are among those expected to benefit from the facility during peak afternoon heat.
Managed with the support of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority and Civil Defence volunteers, the cooling camp offers several amenities intended to help people stay comfortable.
Chairs, air coolers and towels have been arranged inside the enclosure, while chilled drinking water is continuously supplied through water coolers installed at the site. Authorities have also arranged ORS-mixed water to help people remain hydrated and avoid heat-related illnesses.
Unlike the mobile heat-relief vehicles already operating in different parts of the city, officials said this cooling zone has been developed as a more permanent relief facility that people can access regularly during the summer months.
While many users appreciated the effort, the now-viral video also triggered a flood of humorous and critical comments online.
“My country is becoming a meme day by day under this regime😭” wrote one user.
“Man they all are taking this as a joke 🤣 what’s Delhi about,” commented another.
“I promise you, these guys are taking ideas from ChatGPT at this point,” a third user joked.
“As be doing everything except plant trees,” another person wrote.
“I rather go stand in an ATM,” one comment read.
“D in delhi stands for dystopia,” another user remarked.
“Ek ek beer 🍺 ka aur intezaam ho jaata to maza hi aa jata.. 😂😂😂” one user joked.
At the same time, several people defended the initiative and called it a necessary measure during the ongoing heatwave.
“Bro this is genuinely good and needed unlike you 🥀” wrote one user.
