Palghar, Jul 25 (PTI) A mild tremor of 3.1 magnitude was recorded in parts of Palghar district of Maharashtra on Saturday morning, an official said.
No damage, casualties, or losses have been reported, said Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the disaster management cell of Palghar district.
According to Kadam, the tremor was felt at 10:57 am, with its epicentre traced around the Ganjad area in Dahanu taluka.
Coming in the midst of heavy rains that have already battered the region, the sudden seismic activity sparked panic among residents in the tribal-dominated belts of the district, officials said.
Palghar district, particularly the Dahanu and Talasari belts (Dundalwadi), has a history of experiencing repeated low-intensity seismic tremors.
However, there
had been a lull in such activity for quite some time before Saturday’s tremor.
“Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and the administration is keeping a constant tab on any developments,” Kadam added. PTI COR NSK
