Ducati MotoGP champion Marc Marquez suffered a collarbone injury following a dramatic collision with Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap of the Indonesian Grand Prix on Sunday, his team confirmed.
The incident occurred when Bezzecchi ran into the rear of Marquez’s Ducati, sending both riders tumbling at high speed into the gravel. Marquez was seen clutching his shoulder and grimacing in pain as he struggled to stand, clearly shaken by the impact.

Evidence of Fracture
Initial scans suggested a possible fracture to Marquez’s right collarbone — the same shoulder that had been seriously injured in the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, an injury that sidelined him for months and required multiple surgeries. Ducati confirmed the update on social media:
“As a result of today’s crash at Indonesian GP, Marc Marquez has suffered an injury to his right collarbone,” the team said.
“The Spanish rider will travel tonight to Madrid for further medical tests and to decide on the treatment to follow.”
The seven-time MotoGP champion acknowledged the misfortune but remained composed in his post-race comments.
“Not the best way to celebrate the championship,” Marquez said.
“In the end, Marco Bezzecchi already came to me and said sorry. This happens. Sometimes I will do it, sometimes somebody else will do it, but it was not on purpose. Marco accepts it was his fault.”
He added, “We will fly to Madrid and try to understand with the doctors exactly what is wrong and try to come back as soon as possible.”
Bezzecchi Escapes Major Injury
Aprilia reported that Bezzecchi underwent thorough medical checks and was given the all-clear. “After the medical examinations, no fractures have been found for Marco Bezzecchi,” the team said in a statement.
Chaos in Indonesia
The Indonesian GP was particularly punishing for riders, as Marquez was not the only one to crash. Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, Honda’s Joan Mir, and Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Enea Bastianini all tumbled out of the race, leaving it wide open for a surprise winner. Rookie Fermin Aldeguer of Gresini Racing ultimately claimed the checkered flag.
Championship Context
While Marquez has already sealed the 2025 MotoGP title and can afford to miss the remaining rounds, Bezzecchi still has the chance to fight for a podium finish in the standings. Currently, Alex Marquez leads with 362 points, Bagnaia sits third with 274, and Bezzecchi trails closely behind by just 20 points.
The next round, the Australian Grand Prix, is scheduled in two weeks.
