Shark Tank India 5’s newest judge, Minimalist co-founder Mohit Yadav, appears to have made a strong impression on the audience. As Mohit joins the panel alongside ‘sharks’ Anupam Mittal, Kunal Bahl, Namita Thapar, and Aman Gupta, in an interview, he admitted that Shark Tank has been a huge inspiration to him during his difficult times. He also talked about growing his empire.
Recalling how Shark Tank helped him during his struggling phase, Mohit shared, “As a founder, I grew up watching Shark Tank. My first start-up was in 2010, when Shark Tank US had begun. When you have those low moments, you need inspiration and motivation; you find that in real stories from people around you. When you see someone hustling, going through a tough time, it helps
you go through that phase. As a founder, Shark Tank has helped me a lot in navigating my own lows and taking inspiration from other founders.”
Mohit Yadav Reacts To Comparisons With Deepinder Goyal
Mohit also commented on being compared to Deepinder Goyal, who owns Zomato and Blinkit. He said that he is humbled to learn that he is being compared to certain well-known figures. “And if they put a name with the likes of Deepinder, it’s an honour,” he said.
Mohit Yadav Success Story
Before co-founding The Minimalist with his younger brother Rahul Yadav, Mohit worked in high-paying corporate employment. He worked at Deloitte for several years before joining Credit Suisse as an Assistant Vice President. Despite the stability, he chose to leave corporate life to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, a risky decision. His early startup attempts were not as successful as he had intended, but they had a significant impact on what happened subsequently.
Mohit grew up in Jaipur and then collaborated with Rahul, a chemical engineer from IIT Roorkee, to launch his first firm. In 2008, the brothers established Scopial Fashion, an online T-shirt firm. It was later renamed Mangostreet and focused on children’s apparel.
On Shark Tank India Season 5, Mohit said that they borrowed money from their family to establish the firm. However, the brand did not grow as expected. Finally, the brothers sold it. Mohit joined CarDekho as Vice President.
He quickly left to launch another company called Free Will, which provided haircare products. While the startup is still operating, it has not scaled as expected. Free Will assisted Mohit and Rahul in identifying a need in the skincare market. They introduced The Minimalist in October 2020, drawing on user data and product feedback. The brand emphasises clear ingredients and remedies for specific skin issues.
