Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened the innings for India in their ongoing ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 Super Six match against Pakistan but could only manage to score 30 runs from 22 balls at Queens Sports Club
in Bulawayo. He looked in good touch during his stay at the crease and hammered 5 fours and 1 six. But he failed to convert his good start into a big knock. The 14-year-old left-handed batter from Bihar was sent back to the pavilion by Mohammad Sayyam on the fourth ball of the eighth over of India’s innings. But just a ball before making his way back to the pavilion, Sooryavanshi got two lifelines.
On the third ball of the eighth over, Sooryavanshi tried to take an aerial route and add half a dozen runs to India’s tally, but he failed to connect with the ball properly, and it went straight up. Huzaifa Ahsan stepped up to complete the catch, but he barely got his hands on it.
Huzaifa, after failing to take a catch, threw the ball to the keeper’s end, as there was a run-out chance as well. Sooryavanshi was way out of his crease, but the fielder approaching the stumps failed to gather the ball and shatter the stumps.
The clip of the epic goof-up by Pakistani players on the field is now going viral on the internet.

Sooryavanshi was the first Indian batter to make his way back to the pavilion on Sunday. Two balls after his dismissal, Indian skipper Ayush Mhatre also got out. The right-handed batter from Mumbai, who represents Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, failed to open his account even. On the first ball of the 9th over of the Indian innings, Sooryavanshi’s opening partner, Aaron Geroge, also returned back to the pavilion.
The right-handed batter was clean bowled by Abdul Subhan. Before making his way back to the hut, George scored 16 runs from 25 balls for the Boys in Blue.
No handshake at toss
In the must-win match for both the teams, Pakistan skipper Farhan Yousaf won the toss and opted to field first. During the toss, Indian skipper Ayush Mhatre, after spinning the coin, avoided a handshake with Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf.
The trend of Indian and Pakistani captains avoiding handshakes is not a new thing in cricket. In the last five months whenever India and Pakistan have faced each other, whether in men’s cricket, women’s cricket or at the U19 level, their captains have avoided handshakes at the toss.
