Bengaluru’s long-standing traffic woes are no longer just a local headache. With the city’s congestion levels being flagged in global traffic rankings, the spotlight has now turned sharply back on how India’s tech capital moves.
In response, Bengaluru Traffic Police have issued fresh guidelines and alerts, urging commuters to change everyday road behaviour as pressure on the city’s streets continues to mount.
The new advisory comes amid rising vehicle numbers, frequent bottlenecks, and increasing violations during peak hours. Traffic police officials have said congestion is no longer limited to a few corridors but has spread across arterial roads, residential stretches and IT hubs, especially during office rush hours.
With Bengaluru’s traffic delays
being discussed internationally, authorities say the situation demands stricter discipline and better cooperation from road users.
What The New Guidelines Focus On
According to traffic police alerts, the emphasis is now on lane discipline, avoiding unnecessary halts on main roads, and following signal rules without exception. Motorists have been asked to refrain from wrong-side driving, illegal parking and sudden U-turns that choke narrow stretches.
Commuters have also been advised to plan travel during peak hours carefully, use alternate routes where possible, and strictly follow instructions issued by on-ground traffic personnel. Police have warned that repeated violations will invite fines and, in serious cases, licence suspension.
Enforcement To Be Stricter
Traffic police have indicated that enforcement drives will be intensified across the city. Surveillance through cameras, junction monitoring and on-road checks are being ramped up, particularly at known choke points. Officials have said the goal is not just penalising violators but restoring smoother traffic flow through consistent enforcement.
Authorities have also pointed out that many traffic jams are caused by small but repeated violations, which collectively bring large stretches of the city to a standstill.
A Reminder For Daily Commuters
Police have urged citizens to treat the new guidelines as a shared responsibility rather than just another advisory. With infrastructure upgrades taking time, officials say immediate relief can only come if commuters cooperate and follow rules strictly.
As Bengaluru continues to grow, traffic police have made it clear that discipline on the roads is no longer optional. The latest guidelines, they say, are a necessary step to keep the city moving — even as long-term solutions are still in the works.
