Kolkata Knight Riders faced Mumbai Indians in their 13th match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday (May 20) and secured a win by 4 wickets. In the fixture played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to bowl first, and his teammates restricted the Mumbai Indians to just 147/7 in 20 overs. The target of 148 runs was not a big one, and KKR chased it down in 18.5 overs for the loss of six wickets. The win over the Mumbai Indians has kept KKR alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race.

KKR will
finish fourth in the points table and qualify for the playoffs if they manage to defeat the Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (May 24). In addition to that, they also have to hope that Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals lose their last league matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians on May 23 and May 24, respectively.
If that happens, KKR will finish 4th with 15 points, which will be one more than RR’s tally of 14.
But if RR manage to get the better of Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday afternoon, then irrespective of the result of the KKR-DC match, Royals will qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, and Knight Riders will get knocked out.
If PBKS win against LSG on Saturday (May 23) in Lucknow, RR lose against the Mumbai Indians, and then KKR also get the better of DC, then both PBKS and KKR will finish the league stage with 15 points each. In such a scenario, the team with the better net run rate between PBKS and KKR will take the 4th position in the points table and book a place in the IPL 2026 Eliminator.
