In a tragic incident, eight-year-old television actor Veer Sharma, known for his role as Pushkal in Sony SAB’s show Shrimad Ramayan, and his elder brother Shoriya Sharma died after a fire broke out at their home in Rajasthan’s Kota early Sunday morning.
According to police, the boys were alone in the flat when the fire started around 2 AM. Their father, Jitendra Sharma, who works as a teacher at a coaching centre, was attending a bhajan programme, while their mother, actor Rita Sharma, was in Mumbai at the time.
How Did The Fire Break Out?
The fire broke out in the drawing room of their fourth-floor flat at the Deepshree building in the Anantpura police station area. Kota Superintendent of Police (SP) Tejeshwani Goutam, who visited the spot, said
a short-circuit is suspected to have caused the blaze.
“The children were sleeping when the incident took place. The fire did not spread to other rooms, and it appears that they died due to suffocation from the smoke,” the SP said.
Circle Inspector (CI) Bhupendra Singh said neighbours noticed smoke coming out of the flat and rushed to help. They broke open the door and found the boys unconscious.
“The children were taken to the hospital immediately, but doctors declared them brought dead,” he added.
Neighbours used fire extinguishers available in the building to douse the flames. No fire brigade vehicle was called, as the blaze was brought under control quickly.
Investigation
The fire completely gutted the drawing room, reducing the furniture to ashes. Police handed over the bodies to the family after the mother returned from Mumbai. In a gesture of compassion, the family decided to donate the children’s eyes to an eye bank.
An FIR has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS Act, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and confirm how the deaths occurred.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, with many mourning the loss of the young actor and his brother.
