A newly inaugurated Rajasthan expressway has unexpectedly turned into a picnic spot in a viral video, after a large family was seen sitting down for lunch on the road. The clip has divided the internet over civic sense and safety.
The clip, shared on X by user @ThenNowForeve, shows several members of the family gathered together with plates of food as they sit on the road and appear to enjoy a meal. Other family members can also be seen moving around and serving food to those seated.
Adding a humorous touch to the video, text overlaid on it reads, “Humara ghar itna bada hai ki ek saath khaane baith jaaye toh lagta hai ki bhandara chal raha hai),” which loosely translates to, “When the entire family sits down together for a meal, it feels like
a bhandara (community feast).”
However, the video drew criticism after the user described the gathering as an example of people treating public infrastructure like a picnic spot. The post questioned the family’s decision to sit down for a meal on the expressway and expressed concern over what it called a disregard for civic sense and public property.
The post quickly gained traction, with social media users divided in their reactions. Some criticised the family for stopping on an expressway, particularly because of the potential safety risks involved.
“Idiotcity pro max. I wished they were arrested and penalized so much so that never in life they will stop on highway even if they want to pee,” said one user.
“Everyday, I make up my mind to leave this country… every single day I curse why didn’t I take up the opportunity when we could do it. Recently, I dropped some makhanas on airport. I picked them and filled in jar back and threw in dustbin. People looked as if I was weird then a lady said, “wo saaf karne wale ko bolte wo kar deta” Why we are taking our own country for granted ? Why?? It’s painfully disgusting,” said another.
“It’s not part of highway, parking area khali hai, mausam achcha h, what’s the issue if they clean it up. Also aise families mein maza toh aata hoga #IWNHT,” said a third.
“There have been instances of trucks mowing down people who had stopped their vehicles for a short break on expressways … there’s a reason “no stopping” is a rule on expressways,” said a fourth.

“Some have snacks in flight, some have lunch on train, now at side of Highway. Indians are like every where making fun of every western ‘cool’ things. My only wish is: My dear fellow Indians, pls don’t be indisciplined & keep tearing western things,” wrote one user.
“Nothing wrong, let them enjoy their life, they are not harming the road or blocking it, why always rage against your own people and become anti-national?” said another user.
