Harry Brook is the vice-captain of England’s Test team and, on Saturday (June 27), he scored 58 runs during the third day’s play of the ongoing third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Brook faced 80 balls and hit five fours during his stay at the crease in the first innings. During his 58-run knock in the series decider, he also completed 1,000 runs in the ongoing 2025-27 edition of the World Test Championship (WTC).
Brook, who also scored a half-century each in the first and second Tests, is only the second player in the world after world No. 1 Test batter Joe Root to score 1,000 runs in the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
Root, who made 21 runs from 46 balls in the first innings of the ongoing Test at Trent Bridge, has scored 1,090
runs in 24 innings of 13 matches in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. Brook, meanwhile, has amassed 1,035 runs in 24 innings of 13 matches in the ongoing WTC edition.

In the list of leading run-scorers in the WTC 2025-27 cycle, Root and Brook are followed by India’s Test captain Shubman Gill, England’s Ben Duckett and Australia’s Travis Head. Gill has scored 950 runs in 14 innings of eight matches, while Duckett has 874 runs and Head has amassed 853 runs in 16 innings of eight matches.
Brook, who will captain England in five T20Is and three ODIs next month, is also only the second English batter after Root to score 1,000 or more runs in consecutive WTC cycles.

The right-handed batter scored 1,463 runs in 29 innings of 17 matches during the WTC 2023-25 cycle and has already accumulated 1,035* runs in the ongoing edition. Root, meanwhile, has scored 1,000-plus runs in all four editions of the WTC.
Brook, who made his Test debut for England against South Africa at The Oval on September 18, 2022, has scored 2,978 runs in 59 innings of 34 WTC matches. If he manages to score at least 22 runs in the second innings of the ongoing third Test against New Zealand, he will become only the fourth English player after Root, Ben Stokes and Zak Crawley to score 3,000 or more runs in the WTC.

Root, who tops the ICC Test batting rankings, is the highest run-scorer in WTC history. In 141 innings of 77 WTC matches, he has amassed 6,633 runs.
