Amaal Mallik On Saiyaara Music
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Amaal Mallik
said, “Why does a movie like Saiyaara do well? Because Mohit Suri lets composers breathe, lets them do their heart’s work.” He further said that there is no doubt that Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda have acted brilliantly, but he believes the music is the ‘hero’ of the film. “Amazing acting by Ahaan and Aneet in Saiyaara, but the music is the hero of the film,” he said.
Amaal also said that artists need respect and proper positioning, criticizing how some people interfere with creative choices and alter songs. “They will suggest something, spoil the song also. Kal aapke naam pe aa raha hai woh song. (Tomorrow, that song will be released in your name). So tomorrow if it doesn’t work, people will blame you for the song’s failure,” said Amaal.
In the same interview, Amaal also shared his struggle to get Sonu Nigam on board for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 song Mere Dholna 3.0. He said that some people did not think he was the right choice, and were instead suggesting other artists. “They didn’t want someone as amazing as Sonu Nigam to sing Mere Dholna 3.0; they were not sure we should go with someone like Sonu Nigam. And now, he’s everywhere. One song changes everything. Even he has to go through this! For someone as legendary, as talented as him, you put him in the witness box, take his test! Then where do we stand?” he said.
“Bhushan Kumar Sir is convinced. ANR is convinced. The director is convinced. Other people from the marketing team someone’s coming; from the actor’s team, the manager’s coming who are then suggesting ‘Why shouldn’t we go with Arijit Singh? Shouldn’t we go with Vishal Mishra?’ And I understand as my choices were these three, but I wanted a little bolder voice,” said Amaal.
