Golgappa, long cherished as one of India’s favourite street foods, has now begun to win the hearts and taste buds of foreigners as well. A viral video shows a foreign tourist trying the crunchy, tangy
and spicy snack for the first time.
The video takes place at a festive gathering, possibly a wedding, where a variety of Indian street foods are displayed, and guests are enjoying the snacks. Among them is a foreign tourist, dressed in a blue saree and accessorised with sparkling earrings and a maang tika, curious to try the popular snack.
The clip shows her holding a plate of golgappas, looking unsure of what they are. She asks the person filming nearby, “What is this?” He explains that it’s called golgappa, but she doesn’t understand at first and asks again.
Finally, she takes her first bite, and her reaction is priceless. She seemingly slips into a Food Coma and says, “It tastes really good”.
Social media reactions
From spicy street snacks to rich curries and sweets, Indian cuisine offers a unique taste experience that is very different from many Western foods. The video quickly went viral, garnering millions of views.
One wrote, “You know food is good when girls start dancing while having it.”
Another commented, “You know it’s bound to be good when they start dancing within 3 seconds.”
“My friends and I call it “girl bonding food”. Enjoy!” wrote the next.
“She went into Joe mode for a minute,” commented another.
Americans enjoying Indian dishes
People love capturing the reactions of Americans or people from other cultures when they try Indian food for the first time. Their honest reactions often resonate with viewers, making these clips widely shared and talked about online.
Recently, one such video went viral, showing an American man tasting puri bhaji for the first time.
In the clip, the man is seen breaking off a piece of the puri and using it to scoop up the potato bhaji, eating with his hands in the traditional Indian style. After taking his first bite, he seems clearly impressed by the flavours of Indian cuisine and exclaims, “Oh! Wow, I am moving to India.”
