A wedding in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, took an unexpected turn when the groom’s first wife arrived mid-ceremony to stop his second marriage. She confronted the groom during the jaimala ritual, creating a dramatic
scene. The incident reportedly occurred in Piraila village, under the Paikauliya police station area, about 30 kilometres from the district headquarters.
According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, Vinay Angad Sharma, also known as Lovekush, from Waltergunj in Ganeshpur, was set to marry a local girl from Piraila. The wedding procession arrived on Monday night, November 17, with a band and all the usual celebrations. But the event took a dramatic turn when Reshma Sharma, the groom’s first wife, arrived with the police.
First Wife Confronts Groom During Ceremony
According to the report, Reshma stormed the venue around 11:30 p.m. and demanded to know why Vinay was attempting to marry again. She accused him of already being married to her, presenting their wedding photos and even a marriage registration certificate as proof.
Reshma repeatedly asserted that Vinay was her husband and insisted that he respond in front of everyone. Vinay, however, denied knowing her and claimed he had never been married before, the report said.
Videos From The Wedding
Several videos from the venue capture the argument on stage. In one of them, Reshma is seen holding printed photos of their wedding and showing them to people around her. She says, “Mere pas legal proof hai. Ye wahi ladka hai jo mere sath shadi kra hua hai aur ye wahi ladka hai jo abhi dusri shadi kar raha hai (I have legal proof. This is the same man who married me and this is the same man who is getting married again).”
She also mentions that they first had a court marriage and later a second ceremony where, according to her, the groom’s family was present.

Another video shows her turning towards Vinay and asking, “Kyu shadi ki? Tum shadi kaise kar sakte ho? Humara talak hua hai? Sabke samne bolo (Why did you marry? How can you get married? Did we get divorced? Say it in front of everyone).”
She then asks the crowd not to intervene and says, “Koi bich mein nahi ayega. Sab log niche utariye (No one should come in between. Everyone step down).”

A separate clip captures her accusing Vinay of cheating her and another woman. She says, “2-2 shadi karta hai ye ladka. Sehar mein isne mujhe loota, ab yaha shadi karke dusri ladki loot raha hai (This man is getting married twice. He cheated me in the city and now he is cheating another girl here).” She also alleges that he bought a vehicle using money taken from her.

Bride Steps Away From The Mandap
The bride’s family tried to calm Reshma down, but the confrontation left the bride upset. She got up from the mandap and moved to another room. After some time, she refused to continue with the wedding, and the procession eventually returned without her.
Background Of The Marriage
Reshma stated that she had a nine-year relationship with Vinay, Dainik Bhaskar reported. They studied together in college and had a court marriage on March 30, 2022. A grand wedding followed on December 8, 2022, with family members present.
According to her, their relationship later deteriorated, and legal proceedings are still ongoing. She said Vinay sent a legal notice claiming she ran away with jewellery, and the divorce has not yet been finalised. Reshma said she came from Ankleshwar, Gujarat, to stop the second marriage and wanted Vinay to remain married only to her.
Police Intervention
The police at the scene intervened to prevent further escalation. Both Vinay and Reshma were taken to the police station for questioning while authorities tried to mediate between the parties. The station in-charge reportedly confirmed that a second marriage without a finalised divorce is legally invalid and said further action would follow after investigation.
