An IIM graduate’s account of alleged workplace practices at a Delhi-NCR-based MSME has sparked a debate on Reddit, with the employee claiming that strict attendance rules, micromanagement and salary deductions made the workplace increasingly difficult to navigate.
According to the Reddit post, the employee had recently graduated from one of the top seven IIMs and joined the company after being promised autonomy, ownership, opportunities to introduce new ideas and close interaction with the leadership. The user said around seven candidates from reputed B-schools were persuaded to join the firm based on these assurances.
However, the experience allegedly changed after joining. The employee claimed that the workplace was highly micromanaged and that even
minor delays could have financial consequences. “Being 10 minutes late can result in salary deductions, while staying an hour late due to work doesn’t attract any overtime,” the user wrote.
The employee also alleged receiving a notice for using earphones while watching a video related to learning about the company’s own product.
The situation reportedly became more serious in August, when the employee was diagnosed with dengue. According to the post, the person’s platelet count dropped and six working days had to be missed. Following the advice of the HoD, the employee said the founder was personally informed about the illness.
The response, however, allegedly left the employee disappointed. “The response was simply a 👍. No “get well soon”, nothing,” the user claimed.
After returning to work, the employee said they discovered that eight days’ salary had been deducted despite submitting medical records to the company. The user questioned whether salary deductions during a period of hospitalisation were reasonable, particularly when the absence was backed by medical documentation.
The employee also raised concerns about the hiring process, asking whether candidates placed through premier management institutes receive adequate information about an employer’s work culture before joining.
Adding to the concern was an alleged two-year service bond. According to the post, the company has asked for approximately five months’ salary if the employee chooses to leave before completing the bond period.
The post drew mixed reactions, with several Reddit users questioning why the employee accepted the role despite the service bond, while others focused on the alleged workplace conditions.

Some users, however, advised the employee to consider leaving despite the contractual restrictions. “Some lala companies are actually fun to work for. This one, unfortunately, is like most of them. Leave as soon as you can, the bond etc. can be managed,” said a third.
Another Reddit user questioned whether the post itself followed a familiar pattern seen on the platform. “I remember reading a similar reddit post sometime ago which mentioned IIM grad getting placed in a family run company. But it had a different ending, which leads me to believe that this is a template for reddit posts,” said a fourth.
One user offered a more unconventional suggestion, writing, “Can u just go to office and not worki. Just go and sit and be shameless about it. Tell u are doing the best u can and this is ur best take.itnor.leacve it. Eventually they will get frustrated and ask u to leave,” said one more user.
Another comment broadened the discussion beyond the employee’s experience and questioned the assumption that an IIM degree automatically guarantees a strong start to a career.
“This is exactly why I say to everyone – don’t just think getting into a IIM will do wonders. You have to be at top funnel to get the best in the initial years.
