Chandigarh, Dec 7 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Sunday said it has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with links to Pakistan following the arrest of one person.
Five pistols were recovered from the
arrested individual, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of the Khalra village in Tarn Taran.
The recovered weapons include four .30 bore pistols, along with magazines, and one 9 mm pistol, along with a magazine.
Police teams have also impounded his motorcycle, being used for transporting the consignments.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused, along with wanted associate Saifli Singh, had been retrieving weapon consignments on the directions of a Pakistan-based handler and supplying them to criminals and gangsters in Punjab.
Sharing operation details, the DGP said that Counter Intelligence Amritsar had received specific intelligence about the retrieval of a huge consignment of illegal weapons from the India-Pakistan border area, near the Khalra village.
Acting swiftly, police intercepted Sandeep from near the Thatha village in Tarn Taran, when he was going to further deliver the consignment to some party and recovered the illegal weapons from his possession, he said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the State Special Operation Cell police station, Amritsar. PTI CHS PRK PRK
