Thane, Sep 1 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught a 62-year-old private RTO agent red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 in Panvel, Navi Mumbai.
The illegal demand was made in the name of the agent and public servants for processing the transfer of an auto-rickshaw permit, officials said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Sonke of the ACB’s Navi Mumbai unit said a driving school owner had lodged a complaint on August 11.
“During the initial inquiry, the accused agent Vilas Sanagar informed the complainant that while the official government fee was Rs 25,700, an additional sum of Rs 4,500 was required as a bribe for himself and on behalf of public servants,” said Sonke.
After verifying the complaint, ACB laid a trap
outside the Kharghar RTO office in Panvel and nabbed Sanagar after he accepted the bribe amount. He has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the official said. PTI COR NR
