The Honourable Prime Minister of the nation, Shri Narendra Modi, opened up on the leaps and bounds the nation has traversed in recent times in the field of sport at the virtual inauguration of the 72nd
National Volleyball Tournament on Sunday.
The National Premier has demonstrated his penchant for sports by supporting the development of various disciplines across the sprawling nation with initiatives that have had a drastic impact on India’s performances on the global stage.

“When a country progresses, development is not limited to the economic front alone; this confidence is also reflected on the sports field. We have seen this over the past decade,” the 75-year-old began.
Modi touched on the vast improvements made by the nation in terms of pathways, infrastructure and exposure for players of multiple sports and the sport-centric focus the government has operated on in recent years.
“Since 2014, India’s performance across sports has improved significantly. It gives us immense happiness to see Gen Z carrying the Tricolour on the sporting stage,” he added.

“There was a time when there was apathy towards sports, and young people lacked motivation due to uncertainty about a stable career, but in the last decade, the mindset of both the government and society has changed.”
“We have increased the sports budget and adopted an athlete-centric policy,” he concluded.
