In a wedding that has taken social media by storm, a 25-year-old man from Karnataka named Wasim Sheikh recently married his two best friends in a single ceremony. The man, a resident of Chitradurga, exchanged vows with Shifa Sheikh and Jannat Makhandar at MK Palace in Horapet on October 16, in the presence of family members.
A video from their wedding ceremony has gone viral on social media, where Wasim was seen with both his brides. They were dressed in similar bridal attire, with the groom holding their hands as the ceremony unfolded. They were seen clicking pictures of their special day and enjoying it thoroughly. It is said that the wedding took place with the consent of the families of all three.
The Trio Has Been Friends For A Long Time
According to sources close to the trio, they have shared close bonds for years. Over time, their friendship grew into a deep emotional understanding, which led them to make the choice to live together. Wasim took vows with both Shifa and Jannat, promising equal respect and commitment to each, while rituals were performed to signify unity and harmony.
Under Indian law, polygamy is prohibited for most communities, and monogamy remains the norm, though there are exceptions for certain groups.
The Wedding Sparks Debate Online
In no time, the wedding caught the attention of social media users, sparking debate over whether such marriages are allowed. While many have called it a “happy decision”, others have questioned the acceptance and the sustainability of such arrangements.
“What message are we giving to our generation? What’s wrong with girls and their parents? Why are people getting married to one single guy, and how are they ready to compromise? This saddens me how they were raised and what their teachings were. It’s sooo wrong to there lives – so marry guys out to get married. This is disgusting,” said one disappointed user.
Another joked, “Bhai yanha ek nahi ho rahi hai aur tumne do do karli wo bhi ek saath. Btw, congratulations.”
“Brides also appear to be extremely happy,” noted a different user.
“Diwali Offer,” someone else jokingly penned.
Another person questioned, “Is this allowed….I don’t think so …two women at a time. So unusual.”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that three people got married in a single ceremony. Previously, a man from Telangana married two women. Another man from Gujarat also tied the knot with two women earlier this year.
