Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their fifth defeat of the ongoing IPL 2026 season on Friday, April 17. In the 25th match of IPL 2026, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans defeated them by five wickets. The hosts rode on captain Shubman Gill’s 86-run knock to chase down the target of 180 runs in 19.4 overs, losing five wickets.
The defeat against GT is a bitter pill to swallow for the Knight Riders, as their chances of finishing in the top four of the IPL 2026 points table and qualifying for the playoffs are now in danger.
As of now, KKR have only one point from six matches and are placed 10th in the points table.

KKR will finish in the top four and qualify for the playoffs if they
manage to win all their remaining eight league matches.
If KKR win eight matches in a row, they will finish the league stage with 17 points, which should be enough to secure a top-four spot.

However, if KKR lose even one of their remaining eight matches, it will be very difficult for them to finish in the top four with 15 points.
In the last edition (2025) of the IPL, Delhi Capitals amassed 15 points from 14 matches, which was not enough to seal a place in the playoffs. Mumbai Indians finished fourth in the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points.
KKR’s upcoming matches
KKR will face Rajasthan Royals in their seventh match of IPL 2026 on Sunday, April 19. The match is scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens from 3:30 PM IST.
KKR’s eighth match of IPL 2026 is against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 26. They will then face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 3 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
