Reigning U20 world champion wrestler Kajal clinched the women’s 76kg gold with a commanding display at the Budapest Ranking Series. Facing USA’s Dymond Precious Guilford in a gripping gold medal clash, the young Indian showcased excellent tactical awareness and composure under pressure.
The high-stakes bout ended in a 3-3 deadlock, but Kajal held her nerve to win on criteria, securing India’s third gold medal of the tournament. India added two silver medals through strong campaigns in the 53kg and 57kg weight categories.
In the 53kg final, Antim Panghal was forced to settle for silver after conceding her gold medal bout against Sweden’s Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren due to injury (VIN).
Meanwhile, in the 57kg division, Neha Sharma impressed on her
way to the final. Up against China’s Kexin Hong in the title clash, Sharma fought hard but went down 0-4 on points to finish second.
India also secured a bronze medal in the 53kg category through Nishu, who delivered a resilient performance.
In a tightly contested bout against Romania’s Andrea Beatrice Ana, Nishu held firm defensively. The match ended 2-2, with the Indian emerging winner on criteria (VPO1) to claim a podium finish.
With this, India’s medal tally at the tournament has risen to 12, including three gold, four silver, and five bronze medals. The Indian contingent will now turn its attention to the upcoming Greco-Roman events, aiming to finish the ranking series on a high.
