Rinku Singh’s Facebook account has been hacked, police reported on Friday, adding that it is not yet clear if any financial fraud has occurred.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Neeraj Kumar stated that Singh had informed him over the phone earlier this week about the alleged hacking of his social media account.
Following this, the cricketer’s brother, Sonu Singh, submitted a written complaint to the city cyber cell on Wednesday, seeking action in the matter, the SSP said.
According to the police, Rinku Singh, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, had not been actively monitoring his Facebook account for the past several months due to his busy cricketing schedule.
“It is not clear when exactly the account was hacked. The cyber crime cell has
initiated a detailed investigation into the matter,” SSP Kumar was quoted as saying.
The police mentioned that efforts are underway to trace the source of the breach and determine if the alleged hacking led to any financial loss or misuse of the account.
AI Controversy
Recently, Rinku Singh had sparked controversy after an AI-generated video featuring Hindu deities was posted from his official Facebook account.
The video shows Rinku Singh playing cricket shots, accompanied by a caption asking, “Who made you a cricketer?” The clip then transitions to animated, AI-generated visuals of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Ganesha seated inside a Thar vehicle. In the video, the deities are depicted wearing black sunglasses, with Lord Hanuman driving the vehicle, while English music plays in the background.
The video quickly gained traction on social media and faced significant backlash from members of the Karni Sena, who have now approached the police to take action against the Indian cricketer.
The content of the video had angered members of the Karni Sena, who claim it hurts religious sentiments.
