Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 27 (PTI) A video purportedly showing a man dressed as a lawyer thrashing a police sub-inspector with a shoe on a road in Gorakhpur’s Shahpur area was found to be staged, police said on Sunday.
The video was allegedly made to garner likes and views on social media, they said.
The 2.55-minute video shows a man dressed as a lawyer stopping a motorcycle-borne person in police uniform and confronting him over the alleged detention of his father. An argument soon escalates into a physical altercation, with the man in lawyer’s attire allegedly hitting the uniformed person with a shoe. A few people are also seen intervening.
The video also captures references to contacting an MP and getting the officer transferred. At one point, the man
is heard saying that the video had been recorded.
Superintendent of Police (City) Nimish Patil said police verified the video and found that neither the uniformed man nor the person dressed as a lawyer was genuine.
“The video was found to be fake,” he said.
Patil said the video was being circulated to tarnish the image of the police and the legal fraternity.
A case is being registered at Shahpur police station, and two youths have been detained for questioning, police said. PTI COR NAV MDO
