Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke multiple records just by virtue of getting his debut cap for India against England in Manchester on Saturday (July 4). He is now the youngest to play for India and the youngest-ever to play a men’s T20I for a full-member nation.
The left-handed opener managed only 14 runs off 10 balls in the game itself. However, he added his name to another unique record by getting out. He’s the first Indian to get out stumped on his T20I debut.

Sooryavanshi had a challenging start to the knock, with England debutant Josh Tongue troubling him with steep bounce and lively pace. The 15-year-old was
beaten twice while attempting attacking strokes, much like opening partner Abhishek Sharma, who also struggled on the lively Old Trafford surface.
Sooryavavanshi eventually got off the mark by digging out a yorker that ran away off a thick inside edge for a single. The teenager soon showcased the fearless strokeplay that has earned him widespread attention against Rajasthan Royals teammate Jofra Archer. On the first ball, he created room by moving across his stumps before lifting the fast bowler cleanly over the wicketkeeper for a stunning first six.
Archer kept him quiet for a while, but Sooryavanshi regained the initiative in the next over, capitalising on a slower delivery from Josh Tongue by sending it soaring over the midwicket boundary for his second maximum. However, his aggressive approach eventually led to his downfall.
Looking to attack part-time off-spinner Will Jacks, who was brought into the attack just as a positive match-up, Sooryavanshi advanced down the track but was beaten by a quicker, flatter delivery outside off, with Jos Buttler whipping off the bails to end the cameo.
Sunil Gavaskar on commentary said that Sooryavanshi was looking to play a cover drive but changed his shot at the last moment after looking at the ball, which led to his downfall.
