Star India and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has said that it is highly unlikely that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will outrageously celebrate a hundred, even as the youngster rewrites record books with every passing innings.
Sooryavanshi has taken the tournament by storm, racing to 400 runs, including a hundred and two half-centuries and is breaking records almost every time he steps out to bat.
The rate at which Sooryavanshi is scoring suggests limitless potential. Till now, he has shown no visible weaknesses, with almost everything bowled to him being dispatched into the stands.
But Friday’s clash between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals could test that narrative. For the first time in his career, Sooryavanshi will face the formidable
Mitchell Starc.
Sooryavanshi has already dominated the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, but Starc now presents a fresh and defining challenge.
Rahul is certain about one thing: Sooryavanshi would not be recreating his ‘hand-in-the-mouth’ celebration if he scores a hundred in IPL 2026. The former had unveiled the gesture last year after ending an eight-year wait for a Test century at home against the West Indies, dedicating it to the birth of his daughter earlier that March.
When asked to blind-rank some outrageous IPL 2026 scenarios, Rahul placed the chances of Sooryavanshi copying the celebration at No. 7 out of 8, indicating he sees it as highly unlikely.
“I don’t think he (Sooryavanshi) is going to do that,” Rahul said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
Having made his IPL debut last year, Sooryavanshi has already announced himself on the big stage, smashing hundreds in Australia, England and South Africa and leading his team to the U19 World Cup title in February, where he capped it off with a brilliant 175 in the final.
If becoming the youngest-ever IPL centurion was not brilliant enough, Sooryavanshi has only continued to raise the bar this season.
