A post about a watchman welcoming his third child while earning less than Rs 10,000 per month has sparked divisive reactions on X. Many people raised questions about fair pay and provision of facilities
to new families, while others highlighted how having more kids can help keep the country’s total fertility rate (TFR) stable. The post also led to a discussion about how policies related to family planning and other aspects of life may not reach all sections of society.
The debate started when a user wrote about the watchman and his building welcoming his third child, and mentioned how the employee was “burdened” with five lives while earning a low amount. The authenticity of the incident could not be independently verified.
User Drops Post About Watchman Welcoming Third Child
The user remarked, “The watchman in our apartment, barely 25, had his third child… He makes less than 10k from two jobs. At an age when most are just starting their careers… he is already burdened by the weight of 5 lives on a minimum wage salary…” So many young people are trapped in the same cycle of poverty.
Highlighting how awareness about government policies and guidelines related to family planning remains limited to sections of society, the user added, “Policy and awareness haven’t reached those who need them most.”

What Did Internet Users Say?
The post led to many people questioning the user about the watchman’s salary. One account highlighted that the man must be able to make more money from a single job than his present status and mentioned, “A watchman making less than 10k from two jobs? Maybe start paying him more and fairly. He should be making more than that from just one job.”
“All watchmen across India – same story. You can also check with taxi drivers. Same,” another wrote.
Several people supported the watchman and proposed ideas to give people like him a better life. “Good. That watchman is single handedly keeping the TFR of India from collapsing. Also, about poverty, well…. get rid of Government Schools and give School Choice Vouchers to kids, they will no longer be in poverty.”
Another person explained how having children leads people to be better equipped to face everything life throws at them. “People who think kids to be a burden are either too materialistic, or haven’t understood parenting. Such posts are what have caused people to stop having kids. Yes, kids need financial support. But they also give strength to parents to provide that support and to deal with life,” the user added.
“They are doing good for our country, it will be seen in the long run,” another posted.
Some accounts pointed out that the person may not be aware of family planning policies and claimed, “Every women after delivery is offered family planning surgery after 2nd delivery, when the family has gone in for a 3rd delivery they are actually brainwashed into doing the opposite of the policy and awareness the government is publicising.”
“In about 10-15 years, the watchman will have at least 5 voters in his household. How many voters would you have? Well, you should consider this question because your oh so #socialist MLA/MP would consider this fact while framing policies or making decisions. Right?” a user questioned.
“Don’t worry governments will bend over backwards giving him and his offspring free stuff, politicians and activists will make them blame and hate other sections of society for their situation,” another claimed.
The debate signals how having more children remains a topic of debate in India. In recent years, some politicians have called for people to have more children. In March 2025, a TDP Lok Sabha member from Appala Naidu pledged to give Rs 50,000 for every third child who was a baby girl in his constituency. The Vizianagaram MP promised that if the third child was a boy, a cow and a calf would be given to the family. As per PTI, the parliamentarian promised to extend the offer to every woman in his family.
