Kathmandu, Sep 10 (PTI) A Nepalese lawmaker on Thursday urged the government to provide assistance to those affected by Tuesday’s earthquake in Mustang district.
At least 300 houses, including school buildings, were damaged in the earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 that struck Mustang district, 350 km North-West of Kathmandu, on Tuesday night.
Lomanthang Rural Municipality of Mustang district was the epicentre of the earthquake, which was also felt in neighbouring districts and the capital, Kathmandu.
Speaking at the House of Representatives on Thursday, Nepali Congress Lawmaker Yogesh Gauchan said that some 300 houses were damaged, some completely, in the earthquake, emphasising that there were no human casualties.
He said that the district was
hit by eight small tremors within 24 hours after the major earthquake.
Gauchan urged the government to provide assistance to the people of Mustang for the reconstruction of their houses.
The earthquake also damaged the 700-year-old Chhode Monastery in Lomanthang, Gauchan said.
He said that the government should make arrangements to provide temporary accommodation to people whose houses were completely damaged in the disaster.
Mustang is approximately 250 kilometres away from the major flash-flood-hit areas in northern-central Nepal. PTI SBP RD RD RD
