Bangladesh are set to host Ireland for a two-match Test series, starting with the opening fixture in Sylhet from Tuesday, November 11. The Bangla Tigers, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, will be looking to flex their muscles in home conditions against an Irish side still trying to establish themselves in Test match cricket under Andrew Balbirnie’s captaincy.
It will be only the second Test meeting between the two countries, which first battled a standalone match back in April 2023 when Bangladesh defeated the tourists by seven wickets. After much speculation of a captaincy switch in the format, Shanto retained his leadership post of the squad that recalled opener Mahmudul Hasan, retained uncapped Hasan Murad, and left out Nayeem Hasan, Mahidul Islam,
and Anamul Haque.
Ireland, on the other hand, have picked as many as five uncapped players in Cade Carmichael, Liam McCarthy, Jordan Neill and Stephen Doheny for the Tests, while giving experienced Mark Adair an extended break after undergoing a knee surgery.
