Bengaluru often receives backlash for its endless traffic jams and language issues, but sometimes the city surprises everyone with unusual stories. A tech professional recently shared a jaw dropping experience that happened with him, not just once, but twice in a row. During his recent ride in the city, he discovered that the Rapido drivers he met were far from ordinary. One driver owns a two bedroom apartment worth Rs 80 Lakh and works in an international company as a quality analyst.
On another occasion, a different driver he met earlier owned a cafe and had a house valued around Rs 60–70 Lakh. When the individual asked them why they were driving despite their wealth, both replied that they enjoyed it and found it fun.
Wealthy Rapido Drivers
Surprise Riders
Taking to Instagram, the individual said, “Bengaluru is crazy. I’m not getting used to it, this has happened twice in a row with me. I was going in a Rapido, you know, the driver has a 2 BHK flat worth more than Rs 80 Lakhs. He is working in an international company as a quality analyst. A similar thing had happened earlier, the guy had a cafe. He also has more than Rs 60–70 Lakh worth of house. I asked him why he is riding Rapido, he says because it’s fun to do.”
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “It’s all about mindset bro.”
Another shared, “Same, I heard that the person we take vegetables and fruits from said that he owns two houses, which are given for rent. I was like, what the hell really.”
“And some Rapido drivers treat the app as a dating app as well,” a comment read.
One more added, “That’s the reason they have flats. Want to ride and enjoy it but do not want to waste money on petrol.”
How Much Rapido Riders Earn
A Reddit user earlier shared his experience working part time as a Rapido bike driver in Bengaluru for four days and explained how much he earned. He worked 4–5 hours a day, mostly at night, because Rapido offers extra pay for trips between 10 PM and 6 AM. During this time, traffic is lighter and rides are faster.
During those days, he earned a total of Rs 2,220, spent around Rs 400 on petrol and ended up with about Rs 1,820 in net earnings. He noticed that night rides bring more money due to the extra fare and there was no commission deducted from his rides.
He concluded that driving for Rapido works well as a short term or part time job, but it is not enough for a full time income. It can be useful for earning extra cash or in urgent situations, especially if someone already owns a bike.
