Chasing a challenging target of 360 runs, Rest of India were struggling at 80 for 5 when Dhull initiated a spirited fightback. The Under-19 World Cup 2022-winning captain demonstrated remarkable composure and aggressive intent, forming a crucial century partnership with Manav Suthar for the seventh wicket. With the match delicately
balanced and Rest of India still in contention, the duel between Dhull and Thakur became the defining moment of the clash.
The incident occurred in the 63rd over of the innings. Thakur, reintroduced into the attack, bowled a short-pitched delivery to Dhull, who was batting on 92 off 117 balls, with eight fours and a six. Attempting to upper-cut the delivery over third man, Dhull mistimed his shot, and Atharva Taide completed a smart catch near the boundary.
Thakur celebrated the wicket with visible aggression, aware of the importance of the dismissal given Dhull’s impact on the game.
Dhull appeared unimpressed by Thakur’s animated reaction and walked towards the bowler, leading to a heated verbal exchange.
The tension quickly escalated, and the two nearly came to blows before on-field umpires Kannur Swaroopanand and Rohan Pandit intervened to separate them. Thakur’s teammates also rushed in to calm the pacer, who continued to speak animatedly to the umpires even after the scuffle.
