Hrithik Roshan has penned an emotional tribute to filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, remembering their time together on Kaabil and admitting that he wished they had collaborated again. Gupta died on October 30 after suffering a head injury following a fall at his Mumbai home. Versova Police have registered an Accidental Death Report and are looking into the circumstances of his death.
Sharing photographs with the filmmaker on X, Hrithik wrote about Gupta’s laughter, his passion for cinema and the ideas they never got the chance to pursue together. The actor said the news had left him heartbroken and that their one film together now felt painfully insufficient.

Rest in peace my friend …— Hrithik Roshan (@iHrithik) October 31, 2026
The actor and Gupta worked together on Kaabil, the 2017 thriller in which Hrithik played Rohan Bhatnagar, a visually impaired man whose life changes after a violent tragedy. The film also starred Yami Gautam and remains one of Gupta’s most prominent directorial ventures from the later phase of his career.
Hrithik’s tribute returned repeatedly to the experience of making the film. He said he would remember Gupta with gratitude and wished he had expressed that appreciation more openly while he still had the chance.

Sanjay Gupta Died After A Fall At Home
Gupta died after losing his balance and falling at his residence, sustaining a head injury, according to police. His family has not expressed suspicion over the incident, and the body was sent for a post-mortem as part of the inquiry.
The filmmaker was known for a filmography dominated by crime thrillers and action dramas, including Kaante, Musafir, Zinda, Shootout at Wadala, Jazbaa, Kaabil and Mumbai Saga.
His death has prompted tributes from several members of the film industry, many of whom worked with him across different phases of his career.
Hrithik’s message, however, remained centred on the one film they made together and the work that could have followed.
“One film with you wasn’t enough,” he wrote, summing up a collaboration he clearly believed still had more left in it.
