Devdutt Padikkal struck a composed half-century in India A’s second innings as the opening unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A ended in a draw after rain washed out large parts of the fourth and final day on Sunday.
Resuming at 48 for no loss, Padikkal scored 67 off 101 balls, hitting five boundaries. He found support from Ayush Pandey (38) and Harsh Dubey (29) as India A declared at 189 for 8 in 57 overs, setting Sri Lanka A a target of 312.
Left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera was the standout performer for Sri Lanka A, returning figures of 5 for 49 in the second innings.
In response, Sri Lanka A reached 70 for 2 in 15 overs before persistent rain forced an early end to the contest. Pawantha Weerasinghe (10), Nuwanidu Fernando (16 not out) and Ashen
Bandara (18 not out) contributed with the bat.
For India A, Auqib Nabi (1/18), who had earlier taken 4 for 58 in the first innings, and Harsh Dubey (1/25) picked up a wicket each.
The second unofficial Test between the two sides is scheduled to be played from July 2 to 5.
