Bengaluru continues to cement its position as the country’s leading hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with a deep and steadily expanding leadership pool that is drawing global attention.
A recent workforce report by Xpheno estimates that the city now hosts over 15,000 GCC leaders, making it India’s most concentrated leadership ecosystem in this space. More importantly, the numbers point to a system that is not just large, but stable and maturing.
A Strong And Well-Distributed Leadership Base
One of Bengaluru’s standout strengths is its leadership density. At 1:50, one in every 50 professionals in the GCC workforce holds a leadership role — a sign of how deeply embedded decision-making capabilities are within organisations here.
The leadership mix also appears well-balanced. Nearly
59% of leaders are in mid-operational roles, forming a strong execution layer that supports both strategy and growth. Senior and mid-level leadership layers remain robust, ensuring depth across the hierarchy.
While the report notes scope to further strengthen the entry-level leadership pipeline, the overall structure reflects a healthy, evolving ecosystem.
Net Inflow And Long-Term Stability
Bengaluru’s appeal to leadership talent remains strong. Over the past year, the city recorded a net inflow of leaders, with 560 professionals joining GCCs and 390 moving out.
Equally significant is the retention story. With a median tenure of 6.5 years, leaders are choosing to stay, contributing to organisational continuity and long-term capability building.
This stability is increasingly important as companies look beyond short-term gains and focus on building enduring global operations from India.
Leadership Quality Drives Global Interest
The reasons global firms are choosing Bengaluru are also evolving. While cost efficiencies once played a major role, the focus has now shifted to the depth, experience and global exposure of leadership talent available in the city.
This shift positions Bengaluru not just as an outsourcing destination, but as a strategic hub for high-value functions and decision-making.
Sectoral Strengths Powering Growth
Bengaluru’s GCC leadership ecosystem continues to be anchored by strong sectoral presence. The BFSI sector accounts for 80% of leadership roles, followed by IT/ITeS at 11% and manufacturing at 4%.
Together, these sectors contribute over 95% of the leadership pool, highlighting the city’s established strengths while also creating a solid foundation for future expansion into new areas.
Across functions, demand remains broad, with sales, finance, operations, HR and IT collectively accounting for more than 90% of leadership roles.
Hyderabad Adds Healthy Competition
Even as Bengaluru leads, Hyderabad’s rise in the GCC space is adding momentum to the broader ecosystem.
With supportive policies, competitive costs and improving infrastructure, Hyderabad is attracting new GCC investments at a steady pace. This growing competition is not a threat so much as a sign of how India’s GCC story is expanding, with multiple cities now contributing to the growth.
For Bengaluru, it reinforces the need to keep building on its strengths — something the current leadership trends already reflect.
What Are GCCs And How They Help Local Economy
Global Capability Centres (GCCs) — offshore units set up by multinational firms to handle core functions like technology, finance, analytics and operations — have evolved into strategic hubs driving innovation and global decision-making.
In Bengaluru, their impact goes well beyond offices and balance sheets. They are creating high-quality jobs, attracting skilled talent, and fuelling demand across real estate, services and infrastructure, while also strengthening a broader ecosystem of knowledge and innovation.
The growth remains steady and future-ready. The city’s GCC leadership pool has expanded at an annual net rate of 8%, keeping pace with sectoral demand. While women currently make up 24% of leadership — indicating room to improve — it also signals a gradually strengthening pipeline.
