New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) A fire broke out at a three-storey building in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area, leaving one woman injured, officials said on Monday.
The fire broke out at the ground-plus-three-storey building in Indira Vihar, which also housed a paying guest accommodation, late Sunday night, according to the Delhi Fire Service.
The call was received at 10.29 pm, following which five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire started on the ground floor, where electrical items were stored, and spread quickly, engulfing portions of the building up to the second floor, the officials said.
All occupants of the building were evacuated in time and firefighters doused the blaze by 12.15 am. A woman student suffered minor injuries in the incident
and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, they said.
Preliminary information suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, they added.
Police said in a statement that they rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the fire and found the building engulfed in smoke.
Prompt action was taken to safely evacuate all occupants, including the building owner, Surender Pal (65), who lives on the first floor, they said.
Furniture and other household items were damaged in the fire, they said. PTI SSJ BM DIV DIV
