Gurugram, Jun 6 (PTI) The Gurugram police busted a fake call centre allegedly involved in a credit card scam operating from Delhi’s Janakpuri area and arrested five accused, including a woman, police said on Saturday.
They have been operating for the past five months and have been evading police by changing their location every 10 to 15 days, they added.
The matter came to light on March 11 after a person filed a complaint at the Police Station Cyber Crime South, saying that he was cheated of approximately Rs 28,000 after receiving an online link from fraudsters claiming to increase his credit card limit. Based on the complaint, a case was registered.
Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Gaurav Phogat, a police team
led by Inspector Naveen Kumar raided the call centre in Janakpuri and the five scammers on Friday, said police.
The accused were identified as Rahul (33), a resident of Baljit Nagar, Delhi, Anuj Pal (20), Gaurav (24), Mukul Kirar (22), all residents of Delhi’s Inderpuri, and Anchal (21), a resident of Tilak Nagar.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused defrauded victims by offering to increase their credit card limits.
They worked on Rahul’s instructions and received salaries for their work. He provided them with customer data, after which they would call people claiming to increase their credit card limits. They then send fraudulent links to victims and use their credit card details to purchase goods online. These goods were either handed over to Rahul or sold if the goods’ value is between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000, police said.
“Rahul had been running the call centre since January 2026. After committing fraud, the accused would shut down operations for two to three days and then resume their scam. To avoid detection by law enforcement, they would change their location every 10-15 days. Rahul supplied fresh customer data after each fraud. We are further questioning the accused,” ACP Phogat said. PTI COR KSI KSI
