Reliance Jio has opened up JioPC to everyone, not just its own broadband customers. Until now, the cloud computing service was locked to JioHome subscribers. From today, anyone with an internet connection, regardless of which telecom or broadband provider they use, can sign up.
JioPC runs computing power through the cloud instead of on your actual machine. That means your existing computer, even an old one, can tap into up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage without you touching the hardware.
Jio is aiming this squarely at computers that are three to four years old and starting to struggle, slow performance, low storage, missed software updates. Instead of buying a new machine or paying for a hardware upgrade, you just connect to Jio’s cloud.
Setup,
according to Jio, takes under five minutes. No moving your files over, no new hardware to install, and no downtime while it’s set up.
Jio’s pitch is straightforward. A lot of computers in Indian homes, schools and small businesses are getting old at the exact moment software, especially AI-powered software, is demanding more from them than these machines can handle. Buying a new computer to keep up isn’t cheap either.
This is where Jio is leaning hardest into its AI angle. Because JioPC handles the heavy AI processing on Jio’s own servers rather than on your device, the company claims even a computer as old as eight years can run today’s AI tools, no upgrades needed, just a working internet connection.
